Please gather, prepare, and send the following documents

1. Your Passport

You must send your actual passport, which must have at least 8 months of validity remaining and at least two blank visa pages.
Note: The last three pages on the US passport are amendment and endorsement pages. They cannot be used for visa stamp. If your passport doesn't meet the requirement, click here to see our passport services.
If you are ethnically Chinese, a minor, or a non-US citizen, you must also meet these Special Requirements.


Special Chinese Visa Requirements

  • *If you were born in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau, you must fill in your Chinese name, in Chinese characters, on the Visa Application Form

  • *First time applicants who were born in China must submit original Chinese passport.

  • *First time applicants who were born in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau must submit a photocopy of their previous passport.

  • *American born children of Chinese descent under the age of 18 must provide copy of birth certificate and copy of parents' passports and green cards when
    applying for the first time or when applying for 24-month visa.

  • *Children under the age of 18 must provide copy of birth certificate and copies of both parents' passports (main info. page only). For those applying with the
    Los Angeles consulate, the original birth certificate is required for all first-time applicants under 18 years of age.

  • *Non-US passport holders must have valid long term US visa (B1/B2 visas are not accepted) or green card to apply for a Chinese visa in the US.
    You must send the ACTUAL green card when applying at our Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, or a photocopy of it when applying in all other offices.
    For Chicago applicants the green card copy must be notarized. Multiple entry visas are not available to non-US passport holders in all offices.

  • *Citizens of certain countries, such as France, Turkey, Nigeria, etc., are required to apply in person at the Chinese Embassy/Consulates.
    The list can change without notice.


2. Photocopy of Passport

You must provide a CLEAR copy of the information page of your passport in addition to your original passport.

3. China Visa Application Form

Click here to download application form, which must be completely filled, signed and dated. One form per applicant. Do not leave any areas blank but instead write "N/A" if you don't have answer to a question, or if the question does not apply to you.

Attention applicant: the Chinese embassy has issued strict requirements for passport photos. Your application will not be accepted if these requirements are not met.
One passport type photo, with a white background, taken by a professional passport photo service, such as Walgreens, CVS, CostCo, or Kinko's, etc. A 2" x 2" photo is acceptable; we will trim it to meet the China consulate size requirement.

4. Photograph

Attention applicant: the Chinese embassy has issued strict requirements for passport photos. Your application will not be accepted if these requirements are not met.

One passport type photo, with a white background, taken by a professional passport photo service, such as Walgreens, CVS, CostCo, or Kinko's, etc.



5. Proof of Residency (for Los Angeles Consulate only)

Applicants residing in Arizona, Southern California, Hawaii, and New Mexico must provide a copy of their driver's license or state issued ID card. Under-aged applicants who do not have a Driver's License can submit parent's driver's license instead, along with a copy of the birth certificate.

6. Additional Form for Visa Applicants (For Houston Consulate only)
Applicants residing within AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, OK, MS, Puerto Rico, and TX who are currently employed in the USA must complete the “Additional Form for Visa Applicants”. Please download and complete this form. This is only required from applicants who are employed AND reside within those states mentioned above.


7. Invitation Letter

Invitation letter can be submitted as a photocopy. However, original invitation and/or personal interview may be requested at visa officer's discretion.

Important Note: Invitation letter from Chinese companies or institutions must be on official company letterhead, showing company address, phone number and fax number with signature . The letter must also bear the official seal of the company or institution.

The Los Angeles consulate requires the letter to state the invited will be visiting strictly for business purposes (meetings, consultation, etc.) and that he/she will not be paid while in China. It should not mention "training", "working", or "internship".

The Chinese Embassy and Consulates randomly check the authenticity of applicants' invitation letters by contacting the inviting party in China. When that happens, your application will be delayed, or denied if the letter is not authentic.

8.Copy of your last Chinese visa, if any. If the applicant were born in China mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the copy of old Chinese visa is a HAVE-TO


9.For Non-US Citizens: the copy of your green card OR your working permit in US, I-20, valid US visa or other legal documents

10. Additional Form for Visa Applicants (For Houston Consulate only)

11. Our Order Form
